The Rajamahendravaram Science Centre, Rajahmundry was inaugurated on June 26, 2025, by Union Minister for Culture & Tourism Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Shri Pawan Kalyan. The Centre was conceptualized, designed, and developed by the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) under the Scheme for Promotion of Culture of Science (SPoCS) of the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India.
Located on 5.47 acres with a built-up area of 2,300 sq. m, the Science Centre includes two key galleries—Water Worries and Fun Science—along with an Auditorium, Innovation Hub, Taramandal (Mini Planetarium), Conference Room, Workshop, Guest House, Temporary Exhibition Hall, and an Outdoor Science Park. The campus also features busts of eminent Indian scientists.
The Centre was established through a joint financial contribution of ₹1,239 lakh by the Government of India and the Government of Andhra Pradesh, with the State Government providing land free of cost.
The key galleries and facilities are outlined below:
Fun Science Gallery
The Fun Science Gallery, spread over 280 sq. m, features interactive exhibits across various scientific themes. Visitors can roll a ball, press a switch, or trigger a device to witness surprising scientific effects—making learning exciting, intuitive, and fun. The gallery encourages creativity and hands-on exploration for visitors of all ages.
Water Worries Gallery
The Water Worries Gallery highlights critical issues related to water scarcity and sustainable water management. While Rajamahendravaram benefits from the Godavari River, many regions in India face severe water shortages. Through exhibits on the water cycle, water purification, sewage treatment, and climate change, the gallery explains the scientific, social, economic, and environmental dimensions of water.
A special attraction is the large-screen documentary and Virtual Reality trail on the River Godavari. Visitors learn why water challenges matter—India has 16% of the world’s population but only 4% of its freshwater—and discover practical insights into conserving this vital resource.
Activity Hall
The Children’s Activity Hall offers an engaging space for young learners to explore science through hands-on kits and playful experimentation. It nurtures curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong interest in discovery.
Science Demonstration Hall
The Science Demonstration Hall brings science to life through interactive shows that allow visitors to see, hear, and experience scientific concepts. These demonstrations make abstract ideas easy to understand. The current theme focuses on the Science of Water.
Science Park
The Science Park blends outdoor recreation with scientific learning. Set in natural surroundings, it features interactive exhibits that introduce visitors to principles of physics, mechanics, and natural phenomena—encouraging exploration in an open, immersive environment.
Taramandal (Mini Planetarium)
The Taramandal offers an immersive celestial experience. Through engaging shows, visitors can explore planets, stars, and the universe, making astronomy both accessible and captivating for all age groups.
Innovation Hub
The Innovation Hub is a creative space designed to inspire experimentation and innovation. Spread across 280 sq. m, it provides tools and mentorship for students to work on hands-on projects, develop prototypes, and explore multidisciplinary ideas. Membership opportunities allow students to design and create their own products under expert guidance.
